It was after we’d recently shot the British and Irish Lions campaign and we wanted to simplify the lighting as much as possible but still produce high-quality work.
So we kept it very simple. One light and one backdrop (white colorama). Focusing on capturing strong movement and shadows. Creating punchy colours and shapes with simple lighting for everyone’s portfolios. Lennie Charls, Jenny Pacey, Wayne Gordon, Amy Guy, Chloe Museli, Anna Britton, Adrian Grant, Jamie Klingler.
Below the images is a video which gives a quick run through of how these images were taken. With one flash head to freeze the action and avoid camera blur. For more photography insights see the creative portfolio.

We set-up a yoga teachers and yoga student photoshoot day at Plough Studios right next to Clapham Common. I’ve been friendly with the yoga studio yogahaven for years so they helped put the word out. We then edited and submitted the images Om Magazine and they ran a couple of front covers from the shoot. Everyone received images to take away and use too.
As you can see in the behind the scenes vimeo video below we had two colorama set-ups. One pink and one yellow. The pink backdrop worked best. We used Profoto and Elinchrom lights and also hired a Bowens light from the studio to help as an above light on both sets. To clean up the floor space behind the model and also light the hair a little more.
The pink set had two side lights lighting the the backdrop and model, an above light and also a main light. With the light’s power correctly balanced this gave an all over nice quality of lighting. Commercial and clean for magazines. The yellow backdrop had two lights and we would borrow a light from the pink set if we needed.
There’s more behind the scenes videos on my vimeo channel, like the Nike Hypervenom 2 shoot in Istanbul or gyro / Jabra Sport shoot in London. You’ve also got some yogahaven videos we were commissioned for of their retreats and teacher trainings in Morocco and Italy.
